Rube Goldberg variations · Sep 24, 04:58 PM

And so, after a fashion, it runs. After a few tentative steps on my own arthritic-y home server and a few ham-fisted installs, now this soft-launch into the ether: electro-publishing on the fly, with server hiccups dodging me all the way. No matter. I shall embrace the shock of the new. I have changed little in the Textpattern default templates, because they already look good. What sold me? The caps on the left margin are letterspaced, a bookish touch from designer Dean. I shall also leave in the default first post, because it is a traditional dry run and a beautiful incantation to the gods of good design.

Part of this is meant to be a journal and commonplace book to document a new phase of life in a new city. Another part will gather thoughts on information management, libraries and the dear places in the world called books, in all their musty substantiality, and what those things may or may not be supplanted by.
