The cascading consequences of Bush’s victory are sobering, if not despair making: budget shortfalls in the trillions, a sharp right turn for the Supreme Court and further deterioration in the Middle East are things to look forward to. At this point, it is useful to reread the New Yorker’s summary of Bush’s record, if only to steel oneself for the dark age to come.
